How can I tell which lower shock mount style my Mustang has?
The photo below is of the single bolt/stud early 7.5" style. This mount has low stiffness, is more prone to wheel hop, can't be used with coilovers and can't be used with any shock that has a bumpstop mounted on it.
The photo below is of the double shear 8.8"/later 7.5" style. This mount is much stiffer and works well for coilover use and shocks that have a bumpstop mounted on the shock shaft. It also eliminates the possibility of the shock body hitting the RLCA bracket under extreme throttle motions.
What if I can't look at my car to see which mount type I have?
All Mustangs from 1979-83 have the single bolt/stud mount. All Mustangs from 1984-93 that do not have quad shocks in the rear suspension, have the single bolt/stud style mount. All other 1984-2004 Mustangs have the double shear style mount.
